Practice F2L and Lookahead with CFOP
F2L (First Two Layers) takes most of a CFOP solve. Getting faster is not only about memorizing algs — you need lookahead: tracking the next pair while inserting the current one. Cube Resolver helps you train both on real WCA scrambles.
1. What is F2L in CFOP?
After the Cross, you insert four corner + edge pairs into FR, FL, BR, and BL. Each case has its own algorithm — the app lists all 41 F2L cases with 3D demos.
2. What is lookahead?
Lookahead means you keep tracking pieces between pairs: while your hands finish pair 1, your eyes already find pair 2. Beginners often pause after every insert; speedcubers cut pauses with earlier recognition and easier-to-see pairs first.
- Prefer pairs already made on the U layer.
- Avoid extra cube rotations (
y/y') when more pairs remain. - Favor finger-friendly R/U/L over awkward F/B when possible.
3. How to practice on Cube Resolver
- Open F2L → Practice.
- Generate a WCA scramble (or type one) — the tool suggests Cross first.
- Run Cross, then follow each F2L hint: slot, pair colors, algorithm, and view rotations when needed.
- Repeat many scrambles — try spotting the next pair before the current alg ends.
4. Algorithms vs practice
| Tab | Use when |
|---|---|
| Algorithms | Learn / look up 41 cases with fixed alg demos |
| Practice | Real scramble → Cross → F2L chain + lookahead |
