What is CFOP? A 4-Step Overview for Solving a 3x3

CFOP (Cross – F2L – OLL – PLL) is the most widely used method among speedcubers worldwide. It's the foundation for reaching sub-30, sub-20, and sub-10 times.

1. Cross

Place 4 edges on the bottom face. This is the most important step for inspection — choosing a good cross direction can save you several seconds. See the cross-solving guide for details.

2. F2L (First Two Layers)

Pair up a corner + edge and insert them into all 4 middle slots at once. F2L takes up most of the solve time. Cube Resolver offers per-slot F2L suggestions after the cross, and the Cross + 1 F2L tab helps you pick a good cross direction for the first F2L slot right from inspection.

3. OLL (Orientation of Last Layer)

Orient all 9 pieces on the top face to a single color. There are 57 OLL algorithms — learn them gradually by group. The tool currently focuses on Cross and F2L; OLL/PLL will be added in the future.

4. PLL (Permutation of Last Layer)

Permute the top-layer corners and edges into their correct positions. There are 21 PLL algorithms — many cubers learn 2-look PLL before moving on to full PLL.
